The history between enemy kingdoms of Aeona and Kazarah is bloody.

However, when Serena’s failure to match leads the other acolytes to bully her best friend, Serena seeks a way out of the monastery to find her divinely-ordained husband on her own.

Kara is a war orphan and an aegis bonded to a Kazari duke. As his aegis, she is his strategist and most trusted advisor; her life purpose is to obey and protect him. When he orders her to investigate the sudden death of his pacifist father, she follows the trail to Serena's monastery. Kara promises Serena safe passage to Kazarah in exchange for Serena’s help.
